地下铁道”的简称。修建在大城市地下的铁路。应用电动客运列车,每小时运载能力可达4~6万人,平均时速35~45千米。由线路、车站、出入口、通风亭,以及通讯、照明、信号等设施组成。世界上第一条地铁是英国伦敦在1863年建成的。中国地铁于1969年在北京首先建成通车。
