to choose which Buddha to burn incense to (idiom); fig. to curry favor from the right person

谓选择自己要祈求的佛菩萨烧香礼拜。语出唐寒山《诗》之一五九"择佛烧好香，拣僧归供养。" 比喻出于某种需要而对某人进行访问馈赠。
