我在重庆的万州长大

I grew up in Wanzhou, Chongqing

wàn zhōu shì zhǎng jiāng biān de yī gè xiǎo xiàn chéng

万州是长江边的一个小县城

Wanzhou is a small county by the Yangtze River

cóng nián kāi shǐ

从2002年开始

Since 2002

yīn wèi sān xiá gōng chéng

因为三峡工程

Because of the Three Gorges Project

wàn zhōu de lǎo xiàn chéng yǒu yī bàn bèi yān méi chāi diào yòu zhòng jiàn

万州的老县城有一半被淹没，拆掉，又重建

Half of Wanzhou’s old county was submerged, demolished and rebuilt

hěn duō jū mín bèi qiān yí

很多居民被迁移

Many residents were moved

wǒ yòng le nián de shí jiān

我用了16年的时间

I spent 16 years

wǒ huì pāi chéng yǐng piàn yě huì yǒu zhào piàn

我会拍成影片，也会有照片

I will make a video and also have photos

yòng yì shù bǎ wǒ duì jiā xiāng de jì yì sī niàn zuò chéng le zuò pǐn

用艺术把我对家乡的记忆、思念做成了作品

Using art to make my memories and thoughts of my hometown into works

2002年，我27岁那年，回到老家

In 2002, when I was 27, I returned to my hometown

熟悉的好多东西都变了

Many familiar things have changed

suǒ yǐ wǒ xiǎng chèn nà xiē dōng xī chè dǐ xiāo shī zhī qián

所以我想趁那些东西彻底消失之前

So I want to take advantage of those things before they disappear completely

wǒ jiù pāi yī gè dōng xī gěi zì jǐ

我就拍一个东西给自己

I just take a picture for myself

wǒ bàn yǎn zhù xiǎo de shí hòu de zì jǐ

我扮演著小的时候的自己

I'm playing myself when I was a kid

chuān zhù bà bà de dà yī

穿著爸爸的大衣

Wearing dad's coat

ná zhù yī zhí péi zhù wǒ de wán jù qì qiú

拿著一直陪著我的玩具，气球

Holding the toy that has been with me, the balloon

zài wàn zhōu de chéng lǐ zǒu

在万州的城里走

Walking in the city of Wanzhou

zhè xiē dōu shì zài wǒ tóng nián jì yì lǐ yǒu zhù měi hǎo jì yì de dì fāng

这些都是在我童年记忆里，有著美好记忆的地方

These are the places with good memories in my childhood memories

nà shí dà jiē shàng huì yǒu hǎo duō jǐng chá hé hǎo duō de mín gōng

那时，大街上会有好多警察和好多的民工

At that time, there will be many policemen and many migrant workers on the street

yě yǒu hǎo duō bān jiā de chē

也有好多搬家的车

There are also many moving cars

wǒ qù jiāng biān zuò chuán jiāng biān yě quán shì wǎ lì gāng jīn

我去江边坐船，江边也全是瓦砾钢筋

I went to the river by a boat, and the river was full of rubble and steel bars

hǎo duō rén huì zuò zài wǎ lì duī lǐ miàn kū

好多人会坐在瓦砾堆里面哭

Many people will sit in the rubble and cry

nà gè dì fāng yǐ jīng biàn dé wǒ yuè lái yuè bù rèn shí

那个地方已经变得我越来越不认识

That place has become less and less known to me

bāo kuò hái yǒu hǎo duō péng yǒu hǎo duō tóng xué zhǎo bù dào le

包括还有好多朋友、好多同学找不到了

Including many friends and many classmates

nián zhǎng jiāng de shuǐ wèi xiàn zhǎng dào mǐ le

2006年，长江的水位线涨到175米了

In 2006, the water level of the Yangtze River rose to 175 meters

wǒ qù le fù jìn de xīn shēng zhèn

我去了附近的新生镇

I went to the nearby Xinsheng Town

nà gè dì fāng gāng hǎo zài mǐ de shuǐ wèi xiàn shàng

那个地方刚好在175米的水位线上

That place is just at the 175-meter water level

zhěng gè xiǎo zhèn yào bèi quán bù qiān zǒu

整个小镇要被全部迁走

The whole town will be relocated

wǒ jiù zuò le yī gè zuò pǐn jiào qiān yí jì huà

我就做了一个作品，叫“迁移计划”

I made a work called "Migration Plan"

jiù yǒu yī tiáo xiǎo jiē wǒ jiù bǎ tā men qiān yí dào le lìng yī gè dì fāng

就有一条小街，我就把它们迁移到了另一个地方

There is a side street, I moved them to another place

wǒ jué dé rú guǒ wǒ bù bǎ tā bān dào lìng wài de dì fāng tā jiù huì bèi chè dǐ huǐ miè

我觉得如果我不把它搬到另外的地方，它就会被彻底毁灭

I think if I don’t move it to another place, it will be completely destroyed

nián dōng tiān lǎo wàn xiàn xiāo shī le

2007年冬天，老万县消失了

In the winter of 2007, Lao Wan County disappeared

chéng le yī gè jiàn shè zhōng de xīn chéng

成了一个建设中的新城

Has become a new city under construction

yě yǒu hǎo duō rén dào xīn de chéng lǐ miàn tǎo shēng huó

也有好多人到新的城里面讨生活

Many people go to the new city to ask for a living

huā yuán zhè gè zuò pǐn jiù shì jì lù le wàn zhōu de bàng bàng jūn

《花园》这个作品，就是记录了万州的棒棒军

The work "Garden" records the Bang Bang army in Wanzhou

tā men zài zhè lǐ dǎ gōng zuò zhù zuì xīn kǔ de gōng zuò zhuàn hěn shǎo de qián

他们在这里打工，做著最辛苦的工作，赚很少的钱

They work here, doing the hardest job, making very little money

wǒ xiǎng ràng tā men ná zhù jiǎ huā zài chéng shì lǐ chuān suō

我想让他们拿著假花在城市里穿梭

I want them to travel around the city with fake flowers

zǒu guò zhèng zài xiū de hé zhèng zài chāi de nà xiē dì fāng

走过正在修的和正在拆的那些地方

Walk through the places that are being repaired and being demolished

huā jiù shì měi lì de xī wàng dài biǎo zhù yī gè xīn de dì fāng

花就是美丽的希望，代表著一个新的地方

Flowers are beautiful hope and represent a new place

yě xǔ huì yǒu xī wàng dàn qí shí dōu shì jiǎ huā

也许会有希望，但其实都是假花

There may be hope, but they are all fake flowers

xiàn zài jiāng miàn yǐ jīng biàn dé tè bié kuān le

现在江面已经变得特别宽了

The river surface has become very wide now

liǎng biān dōu shì xīn de chéng shì

两边都是新的城市

New cities on both sides

zài zhè píng jìng de biǎo miàn xià

在这平静的表面下

Under this calm surface

yí mín zài wài dì kāi shǐ tā men xīn de shēng huó

移民在外地开始他们新的生活

Immigrants start their new life in another place

zhè gè pǔ tōng de chéng suí zhù shí jiān biàn huà nà me dà

这个普通的城，随著时间，变化那么大

This ordinary city has changed so much over time

huò xǔ tā yě zhǐ shì xiàn zài zhōng guó chéng shì huà jìn chéng zhōng yī gè zuì wēi xiǎo de suō yǐng

或许它也只是现在中国城市化进程中一个最微小的缩影

Perhaps it is only the smallest microcosm of the current urbanization process in China
