Was in one building next to our Dee village

I’ve been living in Gulangyu since nearly 30 years ago

My parents came to make a living here

我小时候家里还是比较困难的

My family was poor when I was a child

（妈妈）就贩卖壹些水果在路边给游客

My mom sold fruits to tourists by roadside

我们家因为刚开始是租住的，在四楼

At the beginning our home was rented and it was on the 4th floor

These 2 buildings were built by the famous ‘Lumber King’ Dee C.Chuan

gōng tā shū shū gēn zì jǐ fù qīn

供他叔叔跟自己父亲

For his uncle and his father

liǎng wèi lǎo rén zài zhè lǐ ān xiǎng wǎn nián

两位老人在这里安享晚年

To spend their remaining years

lǐ qīng quán suàn shì yī gè huá qiáo lǐng xiù

李清泉算是壹个华侨领袖

Dee C.Chuan was kind of a prominent Chinese figure

他是1940年在美国加州去世的

He passed away in 1940 in California, the US

yùn dào fēi lǜ bīn de shí hòu shì yǐ guó zàng de xíng shì zài yíng jiē tā de

运到菲律宾的时候是以国葬的形式在迎接他的

When he was transported to the Philippines, he was given a state funeral

He was one of the richest businessmen

在2007年把它（小李家庄）给租下来

In 2007 I rented the small Dee village

We spent about 10 million yuan

主要是花在修理房子的钱上

Mainly on repair

房子是壹座典型的殖民地外廊式建筑

The house is a typical gallery house from the colonial period

zhěng tǐ shì xī shì fēng gé

整体是西式风格

It’s of western style on the whole

dàn tā hěn duō xì jié shàng miàn

但它很多细节上面

But in details

yòu yǒu zhù wǒ men zhōng shì de yī xiē tè bié de xì jié

又有著我们中式的壹些特别的细节

It reflects Chinese features

zhǔ lóu tōng tǐ cǎi yòng de shì qīng shuǐ hóng zhuān

主楼通体采用的是清水红砖

The main building is made from red bricks

wǒ men dāng shí jiù zài gǔ làng yǔ sōu luó le dà gài yǒu kuài de zhè zhǒng lǎo zhuān

我们当时就在鼓浪屿搜罗了大概有200块的这种老砖

We collected about 200 such old bricks in Gulangyu

yǒu tì bǔ pò huài bǐ jiào yán zhòng de yī xiē dōng xī

有替补（破坏）比较严重的壹些东西

To replace those that had been badly damaged

liú lí huā píng yī xiē huā zhuān shì diǎn xíng de cóng nán yáng chuán guò lái de

琉璃花瓶、壹些花砖是典型的从南洋传过来的

Some colored glaze vases and bricks were from the Southeast Asia

wǒ men kàn nà gè dōng xī jiù xiàng nián de gǔ dǒng

我们看那个东西就像100年的古董

Some just look like 100-year-old antiques

rán hòu jiù bǎi zài nà lǐ

然后就摆在那里

And they are placed there

zhōng guó rén yǐ qián gài gè fáng zi

中国（人）以前盖个房子

In the past Chinese people built houses

jiù hǎo xiàng yào yǒu yǒng xù de zhè zhǒng jīng shén

就好像要有永续的这种精神

And hoped they could be passed down

nà gè lóu tī zǒu le nián shàng shàng xià xià

那个楼梯走了100年，上上下下

The staircase has been used for 100 year with people walking up and down

wán quán kàn bù dào biàn xíng

完全看不到变形

But you can see no distortion at all

kàn qǐ lái jiù gēn shí tóu yī yàng

看起来就跟石头壹样

It looks just like stone

yīn wèi tā shì mù cái dà wáng

因为他是木材大王

Because he’s the ‘Lumber King’

dāng shí shì xuǎn zuì hǎo de nán yáng de yī xiē yòu mù

当时是选最好的南洋的壹些柚木

He chose some of the best teakwood in the Southeast Asia

zhěng gè fáng jiān yī kuài bǎn guò qù jiù kě yǐ le

整个房间壹块板过去就可以了

And the whole room only used one whole piece of board

xiàng zhè zhǒng lóu tī zài bǎo liú nián

像这种楼梯再保留200年

Such staircase can be kept for 200 years more

wǒ gū jì yě shì néng bǎo chí chéng nà yàng zi

我估计也是能保持成那样子

I think it can stay the same

fēi cháng de piāo liàng

非常的漂亮

Very beautiful

zuì zǎo mín sù dà gài yǒu jiān kè fáng

最早民宿大概有20间客房

At first the guesthouse had 20 guestrooms

wǒ men bǎ tā jiǎn chéng jiān

我们把它减成14间

We reduced to 14

gēn qí tā jiàn zhù mǐ yǐ shàng de zhè yàng jù lí

跟其他建筑，30米以上的这样距离

And the building is more than 30m away from other buildings

suǒ yǐ zhěng dòng jiàn zhù tā de hū xī gǎn shì fēi cháng de hǎo

所以整栋建筑它的呼吸感，是非常的好

So it kind of breathes well

huā yuán qí shí shì zhàn dào de qī chéng

花园其实是占到的七成

The garden actually accounts for 70% of the whole area

shì yī gè wán zhěng de dú lì kōng jiān

是壹个完整的独立空间

And it’s a complete and independent space

tā lǐ miàn yǒu hěn duō cóng nán yáng yǐn jìn guò lái de yī xiē guǒ shù

它里面有很多从南洋引进过来的壹些果树

There’re a lot of fruit trees introduced from the Southeast Asia

è lí shù tā qí shí shì dì yī pī cóng nán yà yǐn zhǒng de yī gè guǒ shù

鳄梨树，它其实是第壹批从南亚引种的壹个果树

Avocado tree is in fact among the first trees introduced from the Southeast Asia

hòu miàn de huà yǒu yī xiē xiàng xiǎo máng guǒ shù liǎng kē de kā fēi dòu

后面的话有壹些像小芒果树、两棵的咖啡豆

Behind there’re mango trees and 2 coffee trees

mén de huà yī dìng shì jǐn bì de

门的话壹定是紧闭的

The door is surely closed

bù yǔn xǔ pǔ tōng de yī xiē yóu kè jìn lái cān guān

不允许普通的壹些游客进来参观

Common tourists are not allowed to visit inside

bǎ tā shǐ yòng qǐ lái zuò mín sù

把它使用起来做民宿

Transforming it into a guesthouse

jì néng bǎo hù hǎo fáng zi

既能保护好房子

Can protect the house

yòu néng hěn hǎo dì ràng zhè gè fáng zi yǒu gè yán xù

又能很好地让这个房子有个延续

And also pass it down
