But in fact only two changes have been made

jiù hǎo xiàng biàn chéng le yī dòng xīn de lóu

就好像变成了一栋新的楼

And it looks like a different building now

This is an age of appearance

wǒ shàng guò liǎng cì yāng shì

我上过两次央视

I’ve been on CCTV for twice

yī cì shì wǒ zì jǐ jiā de shè jì guāng zhī zhù zhái

一次是我自己家的设计：光之住宅

One is for my home, the House of Light

hái yǒu yī cì shì bái shū mín sù

还有一次是白书民宿

And the other is for the White Book Homestay

nián bì yè yú shà mén dà xué jiàn zhù xì

2011年毕业于厦门大学建筑系

I graduated from the Architecture Department of Xiamen University in 2011

在2017年底的时候

In the end of 2017

wǒ jiàn chéng le zì jǐ de jiā guāng zhī zhù zhái

我建成了自己的家“光之住宅”

I completed the project of my home ‘the House of Light’

yuán lái shì máo pī fáng sān shì liǎng tīng

（原来）是毛坯房， 三室两厅

It used to be a roughcast house with three bedrooms, one living room and one kitchen

tā de tào nèi miàn jī zhǐ yǒu píng mǐ

它的套内（面积）只有105平米

Its usable area is only 105m2

cóng kè tīng tōng wǎng gè gè fáng jiān yǒu yī tiáo tōng dào

从客厅通往各个房间，有一条通道

There’s a passage to each room from the living room

wǒ zì jǐ běn rén xǐ huān yáng guāng

我自己本人喜欢阳光

I like sun very much

ér zhè lǐ shì yī gè pǔ tōng de píng céng

而这里是一个普通的平层

But this is an ordinary single-storey house

bù kě néng dǎ tōng lóu bǎn

不可能打通楼板

And I couldn’t open up the ceiling and get it through to the rooftop

zài zhōng tíng lǐ miàn

在中庭里面

So I built a glass cube

wéi hé chéng le yī gè lì fāng tǐ de bō lí kuāng

围合成了一个立方体的玻璃框

In the center

jiù xíng chéng le yī gè guāng zhī zhōng tíng

就形成了一个光之中庭

Which forms an atrium of light

wǒ jiù ràng dēng quán bù xiāo shī le

我就让灯全部消失了

I make all the lights disappear

yǐn cáng zài le zhè xiē diào dǐng zhī hòu

隐藏在了这些吊顶之后

They’re hidden in the suspended ceiling

quán dōu shì de nuǎn bái guāng

全都是4000k的暖白光

I use 4000K warm white lights

tā shì zuì jiē jìn zì rán de yáng guāng de yán sè

它是最接近自然的阳光的颜色

They’re the closest to the natural sun

dà bù fēn de jiā jù yào me shì bái sè

大部分的家具要么是白色

Most of my furniture is white

yào me shì qiǎn mù sè

要么是浅木色

Or light wood

tā néng ràng guāng fǎn shè dé gèng tòu liàng gèng jūn yún

它能让光反射得更透亮、更均匀

Such colors are able to reflect light in a brighter and balanced way

zhuāng xiū hé zhuāng shì yī dǔ qiáng miàn de shí hòu

装修和装饰一堵墙面的时候

When people want to decorate a wall

tā kě néng huì qù mǎi yī fú huà

他可能会去买一幅画

They might buy a painting

dàn wǒ jué dé zhǐ xū yào yī xiàn guāng

但我觉得只需要一线光

But I think a ray of light is enough

tā zài wǎng luò shàng qǔ dé bǐ jiào dà de yī gè fǎn xiǎng

它在网络上取得比较大的一个反响

The house gained much attention on the internet

zhè ràng wǒ méng shēng le kāi mín sù de xiǎng fǎ

这让我萌生了开民宿的想法

As a result, the idea of running a homestay came to me

zài nián chū wǒ huí dào shà mén

在2018年初，我回到厦门

At the beginning of 2018, I went back to Xiamen

jiù jiāng guāng zhī zhù zhái de fēng gé yán yòng dào le mín sù lǐ

就将“光之住宅”的风格沿用到了民宿里

I borrowed the style of ‘the House of Light’ while creating the homestay

yuán běn shì bǐ jiào pò bài de yī chù nóng cūn de fáng zi

（原本是）比较破败的一处农村的房子

It was a dilapidated village house

shì yī jiā jīng yíng duō nián de yī gè jiā tíng lǚ guǎn

是一家经营多年的一个家庭旅馆

The family hotel had been there for decades

píng shí de fáng jià zhǐ mài dào le kuài qián yī gè wǎn shàng

平时的房价只卖到了60块钱一个晚上

The normal room price was only 60 yuan for one night

jǐ hū kōng fáng jīng yíng cǎn dàn

几乎空房，经营惨淡

Nearly all the room were vacant and the business was in the doldrums

huā le wàn jiāng zhěng gè mín sù quán tǐ gǎi zào

花了170万，将整个民宿全体改造

I spent 1.7 million yuan renovating the whole building

jiàn zhù miàn jī yǒu píng mǐ

建筑面积有700平米

The building covers an area of 700m2

zǒng gòng yǒu gè kè fáng

总共有17个客房

And has 17 guest rooms

jié gòu shì jué duì bù néng dòng de

结构是绝对不能动的

It was absolutely impossible to change the structure

gǎi zào de shí hòu shì fēi cháng nán de

改造的时候，是非常难的

So it was a quite difficult renovation

wài biǎo miàn shàng suǒ yǒu dōu shuā bái le

外表面上，所有都刷白了

The external surface has been all brushed to white

huì zhì le yī gè jù dà de bàn yuán xíng de fú hào

绘制了一个巨大的半圆形的符号

And a huge semi-circle symbol was created

zài yè wǎn de shí hòu

在夜晚的时候

At night

zhěng gè xiào liǎn huì liàng qǐ lái

整个笑脸会亮起来

The smile is lighted

zài zhěng gè céng cuò ǎn cūn jǐ bǎi jiā mín sù lǐ tū xiǎn chū lái

在整个曾厝埯村几百家民宿里凸显出来

And becomes prominent among the several hundred homestays in the village

cóng kāi yè dào xiàn zài dōu shì yī zhǒng mǎn fáng de zhuàng tài

从开业到现在，都是一种满房的状态

The homestay has been booked-up since opening

lóu zhǐ yǒu mǐ de céng gāo

1楼只有2米3的层高

The first storey is only 2.3m high

wǒ fǎn qí dào xíng zhī ràng tā biàn dé gèng ǎi

我反其道行之让它变得更矮

I backed away from normal practices to make it lower

zēng jiā le tà tà mǐ

增加了榻榻米

I put a tatami bed

shè zhì le dì tǎn yǔ lǎn rén shā fā

设置了地毯与懒人沙发

A carpet and a beanbag are also placed in the space

xí dì ér zuò fǎn ér jué dé zhè gè kōng jiān gèng gāo le

席地而坐，反而觉得这个空间更高了

When you sit on the floor, you would feel the space become higher

ràng běn shēn fáng zi de quē diǎn zhuǎn biàn wèi le yōu diǎn

让本身房子的缺点转变为了优点

So the weakness is turned into an advantage

zài lóu kè fáng lǐ

在2楼客房里

In the guest rooms on the second floor

tóng yàng shì chuáng diàn zhí jiē luò zài dì shàng

同样是床垫直接落在地上

The mattresses are also directly arranged on the floor

zài chuáng de shàng fāng wǒ shè zhì le yī miàn jìng zi

在床的上方我设置了一面镜子

I installed a mirror above the bed

hěn duō rén huì jué dé zhè huì bù huì chù fàn fēng shuǐ

很多人会觉得这会不会触犯风水

Lots of people wonder if it has an impact on feng shui

dàn shí jì shàng rén tǎng zài chuáng pù shàng de shí hòu

但实际上，人躺在床铺上的时候

But in fact when you lie in the bed

cóng jìng zi zhōng shì kàn bù jiàn zì jǐ de

从镜子中是看不见自己的

You can’t see yourself in the mirror

yě shì yī zhǒng tè bié de tǐ yàn

也是一种特别的体验

That’s a special experience as well

zài lóu de yuàn zi

在1楼的院子

The room in the courtyard

yuán běn yǒu zuì chà de yī gè fáng jiān

原本有最差的一个房间

Was the worst room

yīn wèi rén lái rén wǎng

因为人来人往

The curtains had to be drawn all day long

chuāng hù yǒng yuǎn yào lā zhù chuāng lián

窗户永远要拉著窗帘

Because people came and went outside the window

shè le yī dǔ qiáng

设了一堵墙

I build a wall

yǒu le zì jǐ de xiǎo tíng yuàn

有了自己的小庭院

Which creates a small courtyard for the room

zhè gè fáng jiān qí shí lián diàn shì dōu méi yǒu

这个房间其实连电视都没有

The room in fact has no tv

què biàn chéng le zuì shòu huān yíng de fáng jiān zhī yī

却变成了最受欢迎的房间之一

But is now one of the most popular rooms

dà bù fēn lái wǒ men mín sù de dōu shì hòu hòu de nián qīng rén

大部分来我们民宿的都是90后、95后的年轻人

Most of our guests are young people born after 1990

xiān shì huā qián chéng wèi le wǒ men de kè rén

先是花钱，成为了我们的客人

They first pay to become our guest

xǐ huān shàng wǒ men de mín sù zhī hòu

喜欢上我们的民宿之后

Fall in love with the homestay

tā huì chéng wèi wǒ men de fěn sī

他会成为我们的粉丝

And become our fans

gèng chéng wèi le wǒ men de shè jì kè hù

更成为了我们的设计客户

Some of them even become the clients of our studio

hé xīn mín sù de yī gè tóu zī rén

和新民宿的一个投资人

Or the investors of our new homestays

wǒ kāi wán xiào shuō

我开玩笑说

I joke that

tā men shì yòng shēn tǐ lái kěn dìng

（他们是）用身体来肯定

They approve of us with their own body
