语出《孟子·梁惠王上》孟子在与梁惠王的谈话中打了个比方说在战斗中，有两个兵听到战鼓声回头就逃，一个逃了一百步，另一个逃了五十步，以五十步笑百步”，怎么样?梁惠王说不行。逃五十步的人只是没有达到一百步，但他也是逃跑啊!后来就用五十步笑百步”比喻缺点和错误的程度虽然有所不同，但本质上并没有什么两样。
